Which training shoes should I choose?
Crossfit and functional training at the gym: For versatile training involving lifting, jumping and fast movements, crossfit shoes or flat-soled training shoes are a good choice. They provide stability and grip while allowing freedom of movement.
Strength training: When strength training, especially heavy lifting, you should consider lifting shoes. These shoes have a high and firm sole that provides a stable foundation to maximize power and reduce the risk of injury. Alternatively, it is popular to have flat soles that provide good grip, e.g. wrestling shoes or vivobarefoot.
Which shoes should you wear for martial arts?
The choice of shoes for martial arts depends on the specific martial art and its requirements. Many martial arts are practiced barefoot, while others require special martial arts shoes. Here are some guidelines for different martial arts:
Karate and similar Budo sports: In these traditional martial arts, practitioners normally practice barefoot or wear special socks or tower slippers called "zori." Shoes are rarely used in these disciplines.
Taekwondo: Here there are shoes with a flat sole that gives good grip, while the upper is usually in soft leather or synthetic, with protection for the shoelaces or without at all, to minimize damage during kicks.
Wrestling: In wrestling, especially in professional wrestling, wrestling shoes are often used. These boots have a flat sole with good grip and support around the ankle.
Boxing : Boxing shoes are specially designed to provide support during quick lateral movements and jumps. They usually have a durable sole with good grip and provide good ankle support.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo: In these martial arts, practitioners often train barefoot or wear special socks to minimize the risk of injury and provide grip on the mat. Shoes are rarely used.
Krav Maga: In Krav Maga, light, low shoes with good grip are sometimes used to enable quick movements and better protection for the feet.
