What size should I choose for my karate gi?
When choosing the size of your karate suit, you should consider your height and weight. Usually you need to choose a suit that is 5-10 cm longer than your own body length, as many of the suits shrink up to 10% when washed at 30/40 degrees. Children's suits and lighter suits generally shrink a bit more, while finer karate suits are slightly thicker and sturdier.
Which karate suit should I buy as a beginner?
Adapt according to your own budget but keep in mind that there are many different styles in karate - Shotokan-ryu, Shito-ryu, Goju-ryu, Wado-ryu and Kyokushin Karate are some of the most common styles in Sweden. In general, it is fine to use most karate suits within each style for training. If you are going to compete, you must choose a WKF or specific suit for your karate, for example a Kyokushin suit as a Kyokushin practitioner.
Do you have competition suits for Karate?
Yes, there are special competition suits for Karate which are often made of high quality materials. These suits are also designed to meet the specific rules that apply to karate competitions. WKF (World Karate Federation) approved suits are marked with information about this inside the product pages and have a marking on the suit that shows it is approved.
What makes a karate suit different from other suits?
Karate suits often have wide pants and sleeves so as not to hinder quick movements such as punches and kicks. Specific styles within Karate also have shorter arms, eg Kyokushin.
