Jabb.se has been selling BJJ uniforms for both adults and children since we started in 2006. Many people come to us with questions when they are buying their BJJ Gi. "Is there a difference between women's and men's uniforms?" "Does the color matter?" "How do I know what size to get for my gi?" We have collected answers to some of the most common questions here on the page, but you are welcome to contact us with any other questions via email, phone, or directly in the store!
What size BJJ uniform do I need?
The size of the BJJ gi depends on your height, weight, and body type. Usually, there is a size chart on the product page that shows a table for cm and kg. Generally, you usually have the same size in all brands, but the fit can vary slightly between different uniforms and models.
What are the sizes for men's BJJ uniforms?
BJJ gis for men are usually available in sizes from A0 to A5, with A0 being the smallest and A5 being the largest. The fit of the gi is usually designed to fit closest to the body but not too tight, so that there is full freedom of movement during training and competition. A* sizes can also be considered unisex and work for most women.
What are the sizes for women's BJJ uniforms?
BJJ gis for women are usually available in sizes from F0 to F5, with F0 being the smallest and F5 being the largest. The fit of the women's gi typically has a slightly tighter waist and narrower sleeves on the jacket.
Do you have competition-approved BJJ uniforms?
Yes, most of the BJJ uniforms we sell are approved for competitions and meet the requirements set by organizations such as IBJJF for Brazilian jiujitsu competitions. Note that only uniforms with white, blue and black color are approved for competition, and you can not mix colors on pants and jacket.
Is there a difference between Brazilian jiu jitsu and jiu jitsu?
Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ) is a specific style of jiu jitsu with origins from both Brazil and Japan. BJJ focuses on ground fighting and submissions. Jiu Jitsu is a broader term that encompasses many different styles of martial arts, originally from Japan, including BJJ.
Can BJJ gis be used in other martial arts?
BJJ gis can be used in other martial arts that involve grappling, such as Judo and Sambo. But it is important to check with the specific organization or competition to ensure that the gi meets their requirements.
What are the washing and care instructions for a BJJ gi?
Almost all BJJ uniforms are pre-shrunk in 30 degrees. It is recommended to wash at lower temperatures and not to tumble dry, to avoid shrinking the uniform or damaging the lapels. Remember to let your gi air out after training if you don't wash it right away! A gi that is not forgotten in a bag will stay fresher much longer. You can also find special detergents for training gear in our store!
