Size guide for boxing gloves:

10oz: Used most often in professional match. Can also be used as "sack gloves" when exercising on mittens and sacks. Should not be used for sparring.

12oz: In general, this weight is used for exercise on mittens and bags. Can be used for lighter sparring, but not with hard blows to the head. Good to use for young people and girls.

14oz: Used by most adults between 50-85kg for free sparring. The heavier the glove, the more stuffing it is in it. It's important to have at least 14oz at free sparring, both for you and the one you're saving.

16oz: Used for free sparring of bigger guys and those who fight hard. 16oz is highly recommended by most clubs if you are to be spared hard with head strokes.

Keep in mind that, like shoes, the gloves tear up and shape. It's good if they are tight when you buy them.

One tip is also to wrap your hands with a boxing loop, this to prevent hand injury.
